FBI tested NSO Group’s spyware – Security

The Federal Bureau of Investigation acknowledged that it acquired and tested a hacking instrument made by Israeli surveillance organization NSO Team, but claimed it did not use the software program for any investigation.

The surveillance organization, which will make the Pegasus program, has been embroiled in controversy following revelations that its instruments were misused by governments and other organizations to hack iPhones.

NSO has reported its technological innovation is supposed to assist capture terrorists, pedophiles and hardened criminals. The corporation is currently being sued by Apple for violating its person conditions and providers agreement.

The corporation did not quickly reply to a request for remark.

“The FBI procured a limited license for product or service screening and evaluation only, there was no operational use in help of any investigation,” an FBI spokesperson explained in a assertion, adding that its license was no extended lively.

NSO, which has very long retained its shopper listing private, has claimed that it sells its solutions only to “vetted and legitimate” authorities shoppers. 

Security scientists and teachers have found that NSO’s software has been employed from political dissidents, journalists and activists.

The US Commerce Department added NSO to a blacklist final calendar year, proscribing US providers from executing business enterprise with it, about human rights issues.
