“In volleyball, we are now employing cameras with personal computer eyesight technologies to keep track of not only athletes, but also the ball,” states Alain Zobrist, head of Omega Timing. “So it can be a mix the place we use digital camera engineering and synthetic intelligence to do this.”
Omega Timing’s R&D section contains 180 engineers, and the improvement process started with positioning devices and movement sensor devices in-household, according to Zobrist, in 2012. Omega Timing promises its beach volleyball system is 99 % correct, thanks to the sensors and many cameras working at 250 frames a next. Toby Breckon, professor in personal computer eyesight and image processing at Durham University, on the other hand, is fascinated to see if this stands up through the Games—and, crucially, if the system is fooled by variances in race and gender.
“What has been completed is moderately extraordinary. And you would need to have a big details set to practice an AI on all the diverse moves,” Breckon states. “But just one of the things is precision. How typically does it get it improper in terms of those people diverse moves? How typically does it drop keep track of of the ball? And also if it functions uniformly about all races and genders. Is that 99 % precision on, say, the Usa women’s team and 99 % precision on the Ghanaian women’s team?”
